Bloomsburg Holds Confined Space Rescue

On 2/26 and 2/27 the Bloomsburg Fire Department held a confined space rescue course.  32 rescuers from Columbia, Montour, and Schuylkill counties learned how to preform a rescue in a confined space. Rescuers reviewed knots and mechanical advantage systems that is vital for a rescue to be made.  To conclude the course, the state instructors set up a mock rescue for the students to put their new skills to the test.  The rescue took approx. 30 minutes from the start of the drill until the patient was removed.  Pictures to come...

BFD Firefighters Continue Training

On Sunday January 30th a group of Bloomsburg's firefighters got certified/re-certified to operate our air cascade systems.  An employee from Susquahanna Fire Equipment showed the functions of the system to new operators.  New Air 33's air system was also shown to new operators.  Our air systems fill the air cylinders that our firefighters wear.

BFD Firefighters Train Downtown

On Thursday January 27th a large group of Bloomsburg’s firefighters and officers did training in the downtown.  The newly renovated Capital Restaurant and student housing above was toured for our monthly department training.  The layout of the building was looked over and familiarized with our firefighters.  The fire protection system was looked at for familiarization of sprinklers, smoke/heat detectors, and alarm system.  Our apparatus drivers and line officers overviewed the exterior of the building to discuss strategy.  Apparatus placement and fire tactics were discussed to better prepare a response.  The Bloomsburg Fire Department’s firefighters and officers would like to thank The Capitol for the tour and answering all of our questions.
